Rules

Rules

I know, I know, everyone hates rules. But they are there for VERY good reasons. Please read them thoroughly before you apply.

    Applying
  • You may have up to six characters per account. Please use the main character's name or a screen name for your account.
  • For every Weyr-life character you have, you must also have a NON-Weyr character. For example, if you have a Weyr character (such as the Headwoman), you must create a non-Weyr character (such as a Craft Apprentice) before you can create another Weyr character. If you do not want to have non-Weyr characters, you may NOT create another account in order to have another Weyr character. This rule is put in place to encourage non-Weyr plots.
  • You must have 1 male character for every 2 female characters (that is, you can have 2 female characters on your account, but the third MUST be a male. At max, you may have 4 female characters on an account...if you really like playing male characters, however, you can have as many males as you like.) This rule is only in place because most gamers seem to be female who play mostly female characters. If there is a gamer who prefers playing males, I may make an exception for someone who doesn't like playing males at all in order to balance out.
  • Before you roleplay your character you MUST MUST MUST have a character application posted. There will be other applications... shorter and far easier to fill out, but they will be there.
  • NO BLONDES!!!
  • There is no such thing as a SAD, FAD, FAF, or HAF (Sense/Speak to all dragons, Feel all dragons, Feel all firelizards, or Hear all firelizards). ONLY HADs (which I am not currently accepting because we've already got two or three). Also, I am not accepting anything I recognize as coming from Todd's books because he has altered too many things regarding the universe Anne created (and I don't care what you say, his writing is NOTHING like Anne's).
  • You may not apply with more than three pets, regardless of how many characters you have.
  • You may NOT apply with gold firelizards; we already have three and we need to even out the proportions of the other colors before I will allow any more golds. You may apply with hoppers for now, but after we get to a certain limit (haven't decided what that limit will be, O.o), I will stop accepting applications with hoppers. These will be bonded on the site.
  • Only certain dragons can be applied with unless you have permission from me. If you don't your character will NOT be accepted. In other words, don't try to apply with a mutation dragon or a gold dragon. It won't happen.
  • You may only adopt one adoptable for every two original characters you create. This is to prevent one person from adopting all the NPCs and leaving us with none. There are NO exceptions to this rule. If you are caught breaking it, you WILL be deleted without warning.
    Posting (Effective 2/5/08)
  • READ EVERYTHING. This is non-negotiable. You get four chances with this:
    1. First Offense: Warning delivered in the thread
    2. Second Offense: Warning delivered by site message (PM)
    3. Third Offense: Suspension until you apologize to both me (Kes) and to whoever you ignored
    4. Fourth Offense: Deletion
The reason for this is rule is that characters are supposed to interact. This means reading posts to make sure they don't apply to one of your characters. Yes, sometimes, this occurs by accident--I've done it on occasion, too. If you can convince me (Kes) that you honestly either forgot or missed a section in someone's post (and therefore, didn't respond to it in your next post), I'll rescind that punishment. I will be keeping a score-sheet, accessible by myself and the other admins. This goes for anything else that has a strikes policy (such as posting at Weyrling Lessons).
  • The admins, especially Kes, are not responsible to ensure that people log in and post. To the best of my knowledge, every gamer on this site is at least in their teens and therefore are perfectly capable of being responsible for their actions. Based on that, gamers are responsible for their activity. I will no longer remind people to post in threads on a personal basis (via PM).
    OOC/General
  • Respect EVERYONE on the site.
  • If an Admin or Mod tells you something, listen, they have helped to put the site together and have every right to be shown respect.
  • Don't flame or spam the boards, please.
  • Advertisements go on the advertisement thread. Post them elsewhere and they will be deleted without question/warning/explanation.
  • No Porn on this site, despite what may happen IC I would rather not have any pornographic pictures being displayed on my site.
  • STAY ACTIVE! You must log in AND post once every two weeks. If you can't post IC then at least post something OOC--this includes absent posts. If you are going to be absent for longer than two weeks and you know it, write it into your absent post. Boredom attacks everyone and we'd hate to see you not putting it to good use on here! ^^ You will go on suspension for a good month, messaging Kes once every two weeks. If you don't do this...well...then we'll be forced to delete you in favor of people who are serious about roleplaying here.
This rule is also enforced through the use of a monthly site sweep (rules for the sweep will be posted in each site sweep).
  • ABSOLUTELY NO CHAT SPEAK! Unless it's "lol" or something like that. But none of this bull that looks funny like "Wut r u doin' 2nite?" Type it out properly or Kantorth has permission to take you on a one way trip between (AKA you'll be deleted if it becomes a problem).
    IC General
  • No power playing, this one is a BIG no-no. If you are caught doing this one without permission than you will be suspended for a week. If you do this twice then the suspension will be 2 weeks. After that you will be deleted.
  • No god-moding, unless you've expressed permission from the other party and have notified the admin. For this too you will be suspended for 1 week. Twice will result in 2 weeks and the third time will mean deletion.
  • For the love of Faranth herself no 'perfect' characters. No Mary Sues or whatever the one for the guys is (Gary Stu or somesuch). Characters have quirks and flaws and other such things. If we don't like your char, you WILL be told and I expect no complaints on this...or I will eat you.
  • Fighting and killing is something that happens. Not at necessarily the weyr, but elsewhere. If you wish to kill off a character or something like that, then message the admin so that we might be able to remove your character from the pages.
  • Post length. How fun and exciting? Anyways, for this I will request that you post a minimum of five lines. It's easy to do. I don't want you sitting there and doing nothing. Description is a good thing and we'd like to see you TRY to include it.
  • Mature Content. I don't have a problem if someone wants to RP that out just be sure to include a warning so people can avoid reading it if they don't wish to. (Warnings can be something like; Mature Content (MC), PG-13, Mature Viewers (MV), etc.)
  • DO NOT under any circumstances, make threads involving roleplays you did over e-mail, site messaging, YIM, AIM, MSN or any other form of messenger service. You may mention the Roleplay in question if you'd like but do not make posts that are continuations of what happened in said roleplay. If I catch this, it will be deleted without any warning whatsoever.
    Candidates/Weyrlings
  • A male candidate MUST be between the ages of 12 and 18. Females MUST be between the ages of 16 and 22.
  • We prefer that no relationships occur between candidates. Especially since they have a chance of Impressing. It'd do no good for the site if they were to try something like that. However, because I love a good twist or plot, this rule is one that may be broken... provided there is a reason. And as long as not everyone goes against this rule. Though be warned, if you are caught, you WILL be punished. The Weyrleader's not fond or rule breakers.
  • If there is anything required of the candidates before a clutch, ALL candidates are expected to be there. If you miss it then it will be noted and you may not be able to Impress at that upcoming clutch. Unless you are willing to make up for it IC.
  • Weyrlings will not be allowed to become a full member of a Fighting Wing until they are 16 years old--no matter what age they Impressed, how old their dragon is, or how mature they are as a partnership.
  • No relationships. This is the same as the candidates. Only more stressed. Your weyrling has a dragon that needs their attention. Of course, it's also one that isn't punished often. Just don't expect to go without punishment...even if it's just us separating dragon from rider or extra chores.
  • You must post at EVERY weyrling lesson or you will NOT pass weyrling training and become a dragonrider. You will simply have to wait for the next batch of weyrlings to come along. There's a three-strikes policy for this:
    1. First Offense: Dragon partner is injured
    2. Second Offense: Human partner is injured
    3. Third Offense: Dragon partner is killed (human partner has choice of going between WITH the dragon, suiciding afterwards, or surviving as a dragonless rider)
    Flights, Clutching, Touching/Hatching
  • There is a flight schedule. Bolded names are those that rise next. Message Kes and let us know that you realize your character is bolded and the next to rise. If you'd like to have a pet rise, please message Kes and we'll let you know when you can start the flight or chase.
  • Green dragons do NOT blood kills. Green dragonets and firelizards may, since they actually produce clutches, but the only reason for blooding is to provide extra energy for the flight. The extra energy is needed to gain altitude so that as the mating occurs (on the wing) and the pair plummets, they will not hit the ground before the mating is finished.
  • The RP'er playing the female chooses who is to catch her, not the gamers playing the males (unless the female specifically gives up her right to choose).
  • Please be sure that NO flight/chase lasts for more than 3 weeks. If you are having troubles deciding, narrow it down and flip a coin. If males are failing to post, assume that they have dropped out of the chase.
  • No betweening during a flight. If your dragon goes between during a flight, they DO NOT COME BACK. No ifs, ands, or buts! This may be done for plot purposes (to kill the dragon) but only with permission.
  • In the event that a winner has not been selected after the flight/chase has been open for 3 weeks, Kes the Admin will solve the matter (this goes if the female fails to post, as well).
  • When the winner has been announced, I (Kes) will message you with the clutch content and size if there is going to be a clutch.
  • Two OOC weeks after the flight is the clutching. Three OOC days after that is the touching, and an OOC week from the clutching is the hatching (though none of this is strictly enforced).
  • The mother of the clutch decides who gets what, though I have full authority to take away that dragon if I feel you do not deserve it.
  • Unless you have joined during the hatching, you MUST attend the touching and lessons.
  • When bonding, if you complain over what hatchling you got, it WILL be taken away and you will not have another chance to impress. So, you want a dragon, take what you get.
    Crafters
  • Apprentices can be no younger than 8 turns old. If they are just starting their training, they will probably not be older than 16 turns. Apprentices and Journeymen make up the bulk of the Crafter population, so they can be any age so long as they are not just STARTING their training.
  • I would prefer that most Apprentices are "new" Apprentices--in other words, they're just coming out of their families and joining the Crafthall to begin their training.
  • If your Apprentice is "new," you MUST submit an Apprenticeship application.
  • Apprenticeships are "planned" to last 4 IC years, however, a few will be able to complete it in less time and a few will take longer. Think of it like a "Bachelors Degree."
  • Apprenticeship lessons are required posting. Each Apprentice class has three lessons. Each lesson will be open between 2 and 4 weeks (depending on how many classes a student is attending). Missing a single lesson means you will not pass that class that (IC) year. Adjustments will be made for the following year to allow you to make up the missed class.
  • Journeymen can be no younger than 12 turns old. Most of the crafter population is made of Apprentices and Journeymen, and most Journeymen NEVER make Master, simply because they don't have the skill or knowledge for it.
  • In their 3rd year, Journeymen are given the choice to take a post (permanent or temporary) or remain at the Hall. This will not impact their studies any (if they are attempting to earn their Mastery).
  • Like Apprenticeships, a Journeyman with the potential to become a Master has a "course schedule" that takes 4 years (give or take) to complete. This is like getting a "Masters Degree."
  • Journeyman lessons are also required posting. Classes will have a varying number of lessons per class (no more than 3 lessons per), depending on the requirements of that class (for example, the sciences each have 3 lessons per class, but a "lab" practicum class may only have 1 or 2 lessons). These lessons will also be open for at least 2 weeks (frequently more) and the timing of the (IC) year will be based on the Apprentice lessons in order to keep some semblance of continuity.
  • Masters must be at their majority, therefore, no younger than 18. Very few Journeymen make Master. They have the choice of taking a permanent post at another Hold (or hold, or Hall) or remaining at their Hall. If they remain at their Hall, they WILL be expected to teach at least one class. Alternatively, they may choose to appeal to the MasterCrafter to open a new minor Hall in another holding.
  • The MasterCrafter may not be younger than 25. Most often, the MasterCrafter will be older than this, but this is the minimum age. He or she must also have at least 4 turns of experience as a Master, including teaching.
    MOST IMPORTANT RULE OF ALL
  • Have fun!

Rules may be added as I see fit. Please don't make me add more. Also, some of you may recognize these as the rules from Kluden Weyr, with some tweaks made. Since I'm coming from there and know just about everyone (O.o) and these rules really are pretty general (with a few exceptions based out of my past experiences, personal preferences, and ideas for the site), I figured that was easier than trying to write everything myself from scratch. ^^
