Ranks

Even though there are different ranks, none of them has really too much power over the other, except in situations where it is sensible to have one group be in charge. Ex: A SkyGaurd would get limited authority over, say, a lab tech, if they were in the middle of a battle.

Technolan - Technolan is pretty much always shortened to Techie, or occasionally just tech. There are actually two kinds, Battle Techs, and Lab Techs. Really, the only difference is that Battle Techs will go out into battle with technology, and Lab techs (who usually don't actually work in labs) won't. Tech's will always at least own a special pair of glasses, that often display semi-see though data across the screen. Also, battle techs often tie some brightly colored braid to their glasses. Though, even though they own them, not all wear these glasses. They wear whatever that want, as long as it's fairly reasonable.

Feather Pilot - Feathers are the all sorts of aircrafts that are used for transport, fighting ships, and occasionally recreation. A feather pilot is just basically anyone who flies one (or more than one) for a living. As a signification of rank, they always have an earring, which is of a small, metal feather. This is the future. An earing is just a signification of rank, and they have definitely come up with an excellent way of putting them in. Though, like with techies and glasses, they can take the earing out if they really want to. Among Feather pilots, the feathers color doesn't mean anything.

SkyGuard - The SkyGuard show their ranks by headbands. The band is something like a light, flexible, very strong sweatband. Colors indicate the different ranks in the SkyGuard.
