Ever wonder what your nightmares are for? Why they were stuck in your mind and why you couldnt get them out? Or perhaps you're one of those twisted darlings who enjoy the excitement and fear nightmares give you? Well, on this site, my theory of nightmares comes to LIFE. It starts out at birth; a 'demon' is assigned to their own special person. Their job is to torture the human mind. Its really simple if you just pay attention. On NiGHTMARES you live your life like a regular human being, except theres a twist. You have to live with your Nightmare. Before you go all 'WHAT?' on me, please look below and read the plot. That should help a bit. Each nightmare does have certain powers however, and some humans, according to how much power their nightmare decides to give them. You only get a max of two unique powers for every nightmare, and a possibility of one for a human. Now, NiGHTMARES takes place in a city called Akkadia. The city has no sunshine; every day is night. Surely Nightmares could not thrive otherwise. Its survival of the fittest, of the darkest, and of the smartest... Hmm, I wonder. Will YOU survive?

Originally, the ability for Nightmares to live outside of the body was created by a human girl, Jezzebelle, who had been fooling around with black magic far too much for her own good. By doing this, she created a physical manifestation of all of her fears. One man, by the name of Dontrius.

Of course, this type of voodoo was already heinous in society's eyes, and when it was discovered Dontrius was callously buried alive. In turn, Jezzebelle was forced to be far away from her Nightmare, whom not only did she create against all odds and beliefs, she'd also managed to fall in love with. Silly, silly girl.

But Dontrius wasn't dead yet. Because his human was still alive somewhere, now in a deep coma-like state due to being separated from her other half for so long, he had the ability to rise up and escape the deathtrap that had been set for him.

With the Nightmare's existence, people soon realized, came dreadful power, which they were forced to learn the hard way when Dontrius returned with malice to rescue his beloved Jezzebelle. But we all know that power corrupts, and it wasn't enough to be together anymore. Instead, they used the advantage they had over all of the normal humans to become Emporer and Empress figures of the newly named Akkadia.

After ensuring their place in society, they did the impossible. They created Nightmare's from everyone's fear, so they could learn to live just as they did, whether it be with hate or with love or with corruption. But with this curse came a terrible price, and the city of Akkadia soon fell into complete and utter darkness.  

It was ages ago that the sun died, and Dontrius and Jezzebelle are merely legends now. No one can even remember a time when there was actual light shining down on their world. It's just another page in a book full of myths and fairy tales...

It's been four years since the rising of the four different Kingdoms in Akkadia and already things are beginning to change. Dontrius and Jezzebelle did not depart their dearly beloved world without influence. A new hierarchy has formed, creating an even more torn governmental system than ever. The entire city is changing dramatically, and we can only hope it's not for the worst...

As always, people are forced into living with their Nightmares, and Nightmares are forced into existence. It's not shocking that many people, who host hateful or vengeful relationships with their nightmares, have begun to go insane. But let's move onto something new, something you don't already know, or are living with yourself.

The South has been dropping leaders like flies, becoming weak and helpless as their small district turns from a once-lavish, wealthy Kingdom to settle down in into a torn-down ghetto. Rebellion is beginning to stir within its residents even as new royalty takes the thrown, generally overthrowing whatever pathetic soul is left in 'power' anyway. As they finally begin to regain themselves and build up a bigger, stronger ruling, they start to break off from the other three kingdoms. No one helped them when they needed it, all their pleas having gone ignored as they slowly diminished into the shit hole it is today. In the end, they aren't so happy about that, and the relationships they once had with the North, East, and West are beginning to crumble. Who knows what such a chaotic, desperate Kingdom will do just to claw its way back to the top.

While this goes on, the North is as greedy and power-mad as always, the Queen moving to rebuild the entire Kingdom into something grand, leeching off of the South while they're left to fend for themselves. It's obvious they intend to extend their Kingdom further, if not try to mimic Dontrius and Jezzebelle in trying to play Gods over everyone. While they once approached each alliance with caution, they seem to have become ignorant to the other and have begun to throw away their carefully made associates. Actually, they seem to be the source of many issues rising in Akkadia, some too numerous to count.

As for the East, they haven't changed much, or at least it appears that way. As always, the King keeps a weak hold over the power he was given, while the Queen and the lower-ranks are forced to take the initiative. They have an unsteady rule, true, but very little issues have shown up with their people or between the other Kingdoms, seeing as they're generally more helpful and peaceful in nature, without all that power-hungry attitude. Shockingly, the South's growing hatred and vengefulness hasn't been aimed particularly at them, probably for the reasons above, but mainly at the growing Northern Kingdom. However, the East does have it's own underlying problems, especially when it comes to the West. Although they seem to be on good terms, that harmonious relationships is teetering somewhere on the line of 'we're still okay' and 'there might be an all-out war coming in the future, so you better watch your back, mother fucker.' The reasons, you ask? Well, everyone knows that affairs between two high-ranking figures never end well, especially when it's not only two, but many.

So the West has to deal with this delicate issue, which is slowly forming into something much bigger, whilst also being split into two itself--the King and the Master on one side, with the Queen and the Mistress on the other, fighting for power. The King's particular hatred for females is beginning to cause him more problems than he could have hoped for originally, when put up against the touchy relationship going on with the East, the vindictive South, and now themselves.

Now all of this is in the making, so how does the future look? Not bright, I can tell you that much. But we all know you're interested in the consequences, to join in all this fantastic drama, if only to see what happens. Who knows, maybe you can change an inevitable, seemingly foreordained Fate.

Whatever happens, the answers all lie within Ver.o2 of NiGHTMARES.

Okay, so now you're probably wondering about some of the details, right? [Or you just don't feel like reading all that big text. FOR SHAME.] Well, here are some basics for you.

Akkadia is a huge city that was established by Jezzebelle and Dontrius centuries ago, and living here means that you live in a night-filled environment. Therefore, day does not exist. Understand?

While Akkadia was once a huge empire ruled by only the Emperor and Empress [Jezzebelle and Dontrius, obviously] it is now divided into four Kingdoms: The North, the South, the East, and the West. Each Kingdom has four designated rulers, not including any heirs, if they have any, and those are the King, Queen, Master, and Mistress positions. How did this happen? Well, you know how it is. Things change, and once you figure out how to best them all and come out on top, you're naturally going to keep it that way.

Here in this city, humans live with their Nightmares, which are their fears come to life. Since you're going to want details on these Nightmares now that you've read the above, I will describe them fully.

Nightmares are basically a physical manifestation of the darkness and fear within their human's mind. They can be anything their human imagines them to be, although many have a nightmare and a 'human' form. Most take on the traits of what their human fears most, so they could easily look like anything at all. Generally, they each have one or two powers as well. Because their human was their creator, they cannot be without a human. And just like all humans have fears or worries, everyone has a nightmare of their own.

Humans and nightmares can have any sort of relationships, whether it be love, like, dislike, or hate. Sometimes, nightmares will even grant their human the ability to harness one power.

Nightmares and humans cannot separate too far from one another without strain. If a human is separated from their nightmare for too long it is possible for them to revert to a coma-like state.

Apart from separation, death also plays a huge factor in the relationship between a nightmare and a human, as one cannot live without the other. If the nightmare were to be killed, their human would basically become a vegetable, permanently. If the human were to die then the nightmare would disappear from the physical world only to suffer for eternity within their own personal Hell.

And that's basically it. Now that you completely comprehend this site's basis, you can join in the NiGHTMARish fun. You must be dying to by now.

Yeah, me either. I realized, once I started making my own sites and having them ignored, how unfair it was to judge a site by layout. xD Thank god I've matured since then. But....not all that much. x_o Topic titles still tend to turn me off still.   If the title of your ad is very dark or has foul language or profanity in it (like song lyrics or something), I tend to to stay away from those ads because I don't want to rp in that kind of crowd. I'm fine with a bit of profanity, but 'evil' role plays can get a bit...disturbing. Fun to read, but not necessarily to participate in. I end up judging people by how they role play their characters, so I can't say I'm not shallow myself. I try not to, but if you role play a violent, brutal, vicious character, without adding in some sort of ooc comment to lighten the mood, I shy away from you.

^-^ Oh, yes..characters. I'm working on that. So far my I've got a wimpy teenager with a badass nightmare (because he's wimpy) that will somehow become his companion. Sort of. Are you guys going to have a page of powers telling the kinds you can use, or is going to kinda be a sort of...organized free-for-all? I wasn't even thinking of powers, at least in the sense that they could be used against another person. How intimately are nightmares linked to their humans? Like, telepathically? Or just in the ways you mentioned? Because if that's the case, I was wondering if my character's nightmare's 'powers' could be just an even more intimate connection between him and his human. And there would still be many creatives ways they could use that against their enemies.

I checked back through the thread to see what the issue was and... erm... wth? That's... bizarre. Seriously I was like o.O because that just doesn't seem entirely normal to me. Why object that? If someone joined as another Murdoch, I don't think I'd mind... so long as the character wasn't a carbon copy o'course.

Her and the gal who plays Xerin have recently become friends irl to my understanding. So she might feel as if she's sticking up for a friend, I guess, though I still don't get the real problem - especially since you're not actually using the name 'Xerin' on Cellar Door.

Besides, I nicked Murdoch's name from the Titanic because I liked the big accident connection ^.^; . So I'm probably more at fault name-wise than you.

Sorry for dredging up the issue but it kinda made me reevaluate her a bit as I never knew she was someone who'd do that kinda pettiness...
