Not a sound was made by neither bird nor beast. Any animal would've known something was wrong. Terribly wrong. On the floor, amongst the leaf litter and plant debris, a twig snapped. In a flurry of nervous flapping, a black bird lifted from its perch, wings carrying it swiftly away through the clear blue sky from the danger its instincts told it lurked beneath the thick canopy of branches and leaves. ---------------------- The man crept silently through a luscious forest, placing each footstep carefully so as not to disturb any branches that had fallen, any leaves, any insects, any rodents. In order to pull what he was trying to do off, he needed to be completely noiseless. Draped over his shoulders was a pelt of rich red, fringed with a few strands of black. It had once belonged to a young fox. It'd help him blend in with the scents, he'd been told before buying it. Stop the animals from recognizing him as human. Well, so far it seemed to have worked. Or so he thought. Distracted by an interesting shaped fungus, the man faltered, stepping on a twig. The fairly soft sound came as such a surprise to the startled human's ears, it seemed deafening.
