Species

(The admin is working on pruning this article down to a manageable length.)

You can choose any of the species here (refer to their common names for your mind's sake) or create your own, if none suit your fancy.

If you want to make a specie very similar to ours but slightly different (for instance, a demon who is actually nice), go right ahead. This RP is about dimensional travel, I'm sure there's a lot of similar species. Hybridding is the easiest way to go (check out the Diba Devnal for shapeshifter and hybrid genetics).

And no, you don't have to worry about making scientific names for them. The admin is just a nerd.

ALLMIGHTY INDEX TOOL
All names are reflection of what the specie calls itself in its most common language (or English), but feel free to refer to them by their 'common names', i.e., anthro, angel, vampire...

General notes:

  • Anthro character? Do research on the animal, please.
  • Not every single character should be a hybrid (undead do not count as hybrids.)
Unless otherwise noted, all following species follow these rules:
  • Operate on a reproductive system similar to their closest earthly counterpart
  • Require oxygen, water, and food to survive
  • Have an advanced level of reasoning and creative skills, therefore could probably graduate an Earth University/College about as easily as most of us can, or moreso; and also a sense of self, i.e. 'sentience', and are therefore not 'dumb animals'.
  • Have no natural magical abilities.

    Humans

    Lifespan: 60y
Eukaryota, Animalia, Chordata, Mammalia, Primates, Hominidae, Homo
    Homo sapiens sapiens
Yup, good ole humans. They're just like us. Almost.

In general, humans in the RP day are a little taller, generally fitter and actually much more attractive due to all sorts of fun genetic engineering options becoming publicly available. Yeah. There are still ugly people, though. Colours haven't changed any, as in, green hair is still not natural at birth, but intense chemical therapy can change that! Or dye. Also, there will be some wierd colour combinations, like naturally blue-eyed blonde-haired Asians or Africans, because again of chemical therapy. Only rich people can afford aesthetic chemical therapy though, usually.

Bird-people, bird-people, walk like bird, talk like people... They're kinda like anthropomorphic bird-monster things, and yes, raptorlike dinosaurs count as birds. They're about human-sized and shit. The females are usually a bit smaller and smarter than the males, who are stronger- but this is not the same in every subspecies. They are generally much more anthromorphisized than the plaezoic. Some have wings instead of arms, some have just arms, a few are lucky enough to have both. They usually don't have beaks persay, but hardened lips, and sometimes peculiarly pointed noses.

    Multimodis
These are basically Terran reptiles and amphibians (usually of the lizard-y or newt-y variety), at least in appearance. Though physically there are few differences their minds are much more highly evolved.

For an entire species, they have a very stereotyped personality, though of course individuals exist therein: usually exceptionally intelligent and inventive, their biggest problem is that their imaginations exceed reality to an alarming extent; if you want them to think up a new bizarre weapon they'll do it, but you can't set any kind of parametre- even ones such as one that actually works. They can draw it out and hypothesize but really, they're just like science fiction authors- it's fiction for a reason.

Nagas and dragons of any variety do not fall under this specie classing.

    Sebansrui
    Population: 1 000
    Lifespan: 100-120y
Eukaryota, Animalia, Chordata, Mammalia, Primates, Homonidae, Homo
    Homo Sapiens Alpus
Very humanlike, the largest differences are the presence of short, thin fur; general tallerliness; arms that are disproportionately long in concern to most humans (though not hugely so); a long, prehensile tail; and ears that look sort-of like sideways rabbit ears, but with less flexibility. There are some other minor variations in proportion but they seem to be unpredictable and are not always present. They also have fewer teeth than humans, and pointier. Their fur can be almost any naturally occurring fur pattern (yes, that means you can have... cow-patterned or something...) The most common colours are grey, grey roan, red roan, tawney, chocolate brown, and charcoal grey. Their underlying skin is either black (as in #00000), white (as in #FFFFFF), or human skintones.

    Plant-people: Faeldra
    Population: 300 000
    Lifespan: unknown
    Eukaryota, Plantae, Chordata, Homonidae, Homo
    Sapiens plantae homus
Faeldra are people-shaped plants- humans made out of a mish-mash of modified plant cells. They have pointed ears, anthropomorphic feet with thumbs, long semi-prehensile tails, antler-branches and flowers growing out of their head/ in their hair, wing-branches on their backs, and eye skin and hair colours findable anywhere in nature.

Their skin is usually the colour of a plant stem (brown like treebark or green like most plants), but not always; sometimes they can be the colour of petals. Yes, technically speaking they could be variagated like pansies or something, if you can figure that out somehow so it looks good. Their hair, same deal, though the hair tends towards petal colours. Their eyes are usually yellow, gold, or bright green but can be any plant colour.

They injest only liquids (need water, love syrup) and can photosynthesize.

    Moth-people: Monurian
    Population : 40 000
    Lifespan: avg. 45y
Eukaryota, Animalia, Chordata, Insecta, Lepidoptera, Bombycoidea, Sphingidae
    Sphingidae sapiens monurae
The Monurians are an insectoid race most closely resembling Earth's moths, though they also have a relatively humanoid appearance. They typically have tanned to dark skin, stand on two legs at around 5 feet tall and have four arms, the second set of arms extending from an extra set of shoulders located on the waist. They have ruffs of feathery fur located at the wrists and ankles, as well as a rather large ruff extending from the base of the neck and covering the entire chest. The ruff also extends over the soulders and down the upper half of the back, from which large moth-like wings protrude; the furry ruffs and the wings are usually varying shades of brown, but the wings have large, fluorescent eye markings on them as well. Females are typically smaller than males, and since the species is born from eggs, neither gender has any nipples or navels. They also possess a pair of long antennae (about four feet) extending from the hair on which the last two feet extend soft, feathery feelers used for gathering information such as smells. Their tongues are capable of extending out about six inches and are proboscis-like in nature, capable of being used as a sort of straw.

The species is generally docile. Their diets consist almost entirely of water and fruit, and they can easily become addicted to sweet drinks. They are usually coloured like moths- grey, brown, black, white...

    Mantis-people: Mahtuae
    Population : 35 000
    Lifespan: avg. 55y
Eukaryota, Animalia, Chordata, Insecta, Pterygota, Neoptera, Dictyoptera, Mantodea
    Mantodea sapiens mahtuae
The Mahtuae are a tall, elegant race, usually growing to anywhere around 7 or 8 feet; like the Monurians, they have humanoid faces, though their large, compound eyes are green and their noses are flatter, with mouthfuls of teeth designed for eating meat. They are coloured after any mantis species, with hard plates over their chests and shoulders, as well as barbed plates on their forearms. They have four arms, the second set of shoulders protruding from the waist; their hands have long, nimble fingers with claws on the ends, though there are only three fingers and a thumb. They have long, muscular legs, though their knees are inverted and their feet are large and clawed. Born from eggs, neither gender has any nipples or navel- females are generally taller than males, and the society is matriarchal. Extending from their heads of dark green hair are a pair of relatively long (3 feet), thin antennae, used for smell recognition as well as identification.

    Wasp-people: Waskatis
    Population : 42 000
    Lifespan: avg. 35y
Eukaryota, Animalia, Chordata, Insecta, Hymenoptera, Apocrita
    Vespoidea sapiens waskatis
Waskatis can be described as small, but vicious. Realtively humanoid like their insectoid bretheren, they usually grow to around four to four and a half feet tall; they have black skin, usually with angry yellow jagged stripes down their backs, and often on their shoulders. They have four thin arms, second set of shoulders extending from their narrow waists; their upper set of hands appear normal, with two fingers and a thumb, but the lower set of hands are wickedly curved into claws with barbs down their forearms- these barbs are highly venomous, though fall out when used. Their foreheads stretch forward so that the bridge of the nose is parallel to it, and their mouths are full of razor-sharp teeth, giving them the most insect-like facial features of the three species. Their hair is almost always black, though sometimes dark brown, and from it extends a pair of thin, short antennae used to identify scents and other beings. From their backs, out a black casing-like shell around their shoulderblades, extend a pair of transparent, filmy wings that hum when in use.

The Waskatis are vicious creatures, and definitely short-tempered to say the least. They are largely meat-eaters, though like the Monurians have an affection for sweet fruit and juices. Males are bigger than females, but females are generally a lot less lazy. They are largely left alone, since they are so dangerous and difficult to control.

    Dragons: Tocnud's Ropp
    Population: 3500
    Lifespan: Forever
Eukaryota, Animalia, Chordata, Sauropsida, Archosauria, Pterosauria, Rhamphorhynchoidea, Draconidae
    Draco infernus tocnudus
Don't ask who Tocnud is. He's probably just some guy who 'discovered' them. Who's dead now.

Most dragons are born at the size of a large moose and continue to grow throughout their lives; rumour has it that somewhere in the universe is a planet that is actually just a sleeping dragon. (They do not need to breathe to live- just to function.) They grow slowly, taking several thousand years to reach sexual maturity; born hermaphroditic, some grow to specialize in one sex while others do not, but all are incapable of fertilizing themselves.

They come in many variations; the four most common are Rachne (European), Szaorta (Asian), Harune (wyrms), and Losdente (Aquatic). They are born a light grey and as they mature become various colours; eventually they may become black, multicoloured, or rock-coloured. Their body shapes may change as they age to become more streamlined or stronger; some dragons do not grow to massive sizes, but it is rare that one will ever stop growing before it is larger than an elephant. (Want a small dragon? Try a hybrid or a Hoon.)

Many of them can control magic, and in those that can, their scale colour is often derived from the element- e.g., a fire-controlling dragon might be red or orange.

    Discordus tocnudus-malefactor
At some point in time, shapeshifters or genetic engineering hybridized Tocnud's Ropp with something demonic, and they got these guys. They are shape-shifters but confined to only two forms; their normal, draconic form- which is the same as that as the Tocnud's Ropp, but they hit a size cap of a blue whale; and another, a demonic thing. In their humanoid form they have little or no magical prowess, but tend to be gifted with rare nonmagical gifts.

If they are wounded in one body and shift to the other, the wound will not afflict the nonwounded body, but it will not magically heal while it's being inored either.

They are born with seemingly random genders- either male, female, or hermaphroditic. They do not necessarily share their genders accross different forms.

    Shapeshifters: Diba Devnal
    Population: 3500
    Lifespan: Varies
    Eukaryota, Plethorae, Diffirensis, Discordens
    Discordus sapiens
Let's put it this way: as a whole, their society follows something along the lines of Discordian philosophy. Shapeshifters with great gifts in the kineses, they can appear as almost anything; what their 'base form' is, is unknown. Many assume a usual shape. When shifted into whatever shape, they are fully functional as such a thing; technically speaking they could become a rock, only they'd be missing the mental facilities to turn themselves back, so it's not a very common practice as it's technically suicide (hence their frequent term "Oh, go turn inanimate.") They can therefore interbreed with almost any species, though they tend not to; in fact generally they reproduce asexually somehow or other. Other than that, it's really hard to say... anything about them.

Their lifespan is, generally speaking, forever; but if for some reason they kill themselves or turn into something mortal and accidentally age to death, well, yeah. It happens.

Other names: shifties, sifters, changelings, liars, shifters

    Diba Devnal Hybrids
OK. So. How the system works is... complicated. I'll try to draw a family tree thing, but for now, you can suffer through this:
    1. Mother shifter x father other = 1st Gen. A
OR Father shifter x mother other = 1st Gen. B
OR All other systems = 1st Gen. B

    2. 1st Generation A
In the first generation (a), the being produced will be a shapeshifter plain and simple as that. 1GA x 1GA = 1GA: no difference.
    1st Generation B
In the first generation (b), the being produced will have the 'base' form of the non-shifting creature, but can shift at will. They're just most comfortable in that form. Also, if that form has a lifespan, they inherit it.
    3. 2nd Generation As
I- So a 1st Gen. A individual breeds with a non-shifter. The resulting hybrid is the same as 1st Generation B, and subsequent generations follow the B pattern.
    II- 1st Gen. A x Diba Devnal or other 1st Gen. A: Same as 1st Gen. A.
    2nd Generation Bs
I- 1st Gen. B x Non-shifter: Offspring will have only two forms with limited shapeshifting ability within their species (e.g. a human-and-other could change their hair colour, maybe gender) and subsequently breed Generation C.
II- 1st Gen. B x 1st Gen. B: Offspring will have the three forms of their parents, and be able to shift to other similar species.
    III- 1st Gen. B x 1st Gen. A or shifter: Same as 1st Gen. B.
    4. 2nd Generation Cs (1st Gen. C = 2nd Gen. B III)
    I- 1st Gen. C x 1st Gen. A = 1st Gen. B
    II- 1st Gen. C x 2nd Gen. A = 1st Gen. C
III- 1st Gen. C x 1st Gen. B = Offspring has two forms but no other minor shifting capabilities. Breeds Generation D
IV- 1st Gen. C x 2nd Gen. B II = Can either shift between only two of the species with minor inter-shifting abilities, or between all three with no minor abilities. Breeds Generation D HYPE.
    V- 1st Gen. C x 1st Gen. C = Same in essence as 1st Gen. C but breeds Generation E
VI- 1st Gen. C x Non-shiter = Can either shift between the two species without minor shifting, or has only minor shifting. Breeds Generation F
    5. Generation D, E, and F
    1st Gen. D x 1st Gen. A = 1st Gen. B 1st Gen. D x Any 2nd Gen. A or any Gen. B = Randomly picks between 2nd Gen. B II or III
1st Gen. D x any Gen. C = One form with minor shifting, breeds Gen. E
HYPE 1st Gen. D x Non-shifter = Can shift between hybridized versions of all recent parents (up to four species if my math is correct)? with minor shifting abilities
    1st Gen. E x any Gen. A or B = 2nd Gen. B III
1st Gen. E x any other Gen. = Fixed set of two species, which continues to breed E.
    1st Gen. F x 1st Gen. A = 1st Gen. B
    1st Gen. F x 1st Gen B = 1st Gen. C
    1st Gen. F x 2nd Gen A = Random 2nd Gen. C
    1st Gen. F x 2nd Gen. B I or II = HYPE
1st Gen. F x Any other Gen. = Single hybrid
    6+ Further Generations
    2nd Gen. E x 1st Gen. E = HYPE
2nd Gen. E x 2nd Gen. E = 3rd Gen. B, which breeds like, which breeds like... therefore making a set link of species.
2nd Gen. E x Non-shifter = Either hybrid between the two species or one form with minor shifting abilities
HYPE x 1st Gen A = HYPE with limitless species available... but only hybrids!
HYPE x any other gen = Further and random hybridization Other 2nd Gens D and F breed either as the generation they equal or completely randomly. Yes. Completely.
THE END! NO MORE HYBRIDS! *dies of exhaustion*

    Pseudodiscordus malefactor
Scary demon-monsters. In general appearance, they are a very human-like biped with mild shapeshifting abilities- capable of changing colours, length of hair, patterns, only small things. They tend to have two short horns coming from their forehead, one trait they can and do alter and disguise; however, there are many breeds and types of demon. Some come with tails or bat wings; some are human-sized, some minute, some ginormous.

They cannot be burned by fire or electricity (however friction burns etc. still harm them) and can often control fire.

There is no such thing as a 'nice' demon, though some of them are passable as 'humane'. (You can have a nice hybrid. But most of the hybrids aren't very nice either.)

Androids come in limitless varieties of shapes, sizes, intelligences and life similarity. So there can be incredibly 'intelligent' androids who are just garbage cans and, having no input personalities or emotions, do not feel upset doing nothing but open and close and maybe sort and compress or incenerate litter; whereas you could have an incredibly stupid android with far too many emotions that could pass off as a living creature except for the incredibly lack of intelligence. As far as player androids go, they ought to be vaguely animal-like in appearance, have personalities, and some level of intelligence.

    Draconus aurum
They're fairly simple-minded; small lizards that really have something very in common with sallomanders, and are closer to amphibious than reptillian- despite the fact that they live in fairly water-free conditions- though their body shapes are closer to lizardlike. About the size of a golden retriever, with a long tail about two to three times the length of their body, they tend to have semi-seethrough skins that are clearer and paler on the bottom and closer to green, blue or red on top. Their backs are smooth and definitely spikeless. They may have wings.

They have an extreme obsession with any and all things shiny.

They seem to be capable of living off of almost no air, very little water, and consume minerals; though they can injest insectoid life if it is present.

They are not generally very intelligent, often highly curious, fearless and have an unfortunate knack for telekinesis.

    Necrus Papyrus
One of the more peculiar varieties of undead, pyroussos are a form of intelligent zombie that does not decompose, does not need to feed on living flesh (although a nice rare steak would not go amiss), and who were created in the Lithos laboratories. Physically, they can have once been anything, but are usually heavily modified; a chip here, an arm replacement there, some preservatives here and there- originally it was quite a random process. However, then the most peculiar trait of the pyroussos of all became evident: they bred.

They do not breed by biting and spreading a disease or something. They breed however their original species did, and they breed more pyroussos.

Their name is actually derived not from 'pyro' but from 'papyrus' due to the paper-like quality of the skin.

They tend to retain all of their mortal traits (if engineered), although they'll probably be in shock (of having died and coming back to life) and their colours generally fade to grey. However, they are well-known for their physical power.

    Cadaverosus Virus
Virals are not legally allowed in Helveticus, but some of them get in anyways. You probably guessed, but most of them would be in Engelo Edda.

Virals are close to your typical zombie, except they tend to be cleverer, faster and stronger, and regenerate wounds instead of plodding around with half their head shot off. They breed, as the name implies, via a disease which is carried in their saliva. In small doses some beings can fight off the virus, large doses will kill the host and then turn them undead in an immensely painful process.

As far as eating goes, if it contains blood it's good for virals, although they prefer flesh. If they don't eat often enough they can go into a frenzy and will seek out the nearest living thing, which is usually humanoid.

Virals can start off as any species, and at very old ages they can shape-shift into other species if they have eaten enough flesh of that sort. This is how the virus spreads between species; they have to be of your species for you to contract the virus, no matter how much of their saliva you get into you.

They are highly skilled hunters and very dangerous, often psychopathic (those that aren't usually kill themselves), can move with extreme self and super-natural speed. They usually grow claws and sharp serraded shark-like teeth if their original species didn't have them. Their eyes generally become bright luminescent shiny blue or green.

Scheilotz are, yes, vampires. There aren't very many of them. They have a severe allergy to the element silver in its purest forms and a milder one to pure copper; they are intensely photophobic and their skin burns with utmost ease, so that a few hours on the beach would roast them to oblivion (litterally) ; and they need to drink blood to survive.

They look like humans, are often mildly superhuman in strength, speed and intelligence, and create more of their like by drinking all of the victim's blood and replacing it with some of their own.

If the victim is not given the scheilotz's blood, they may either die or become some form of zombie.

(With a neck and head atop the bipedal body, of course.) Their ears are long and pointed back, relatively elf-like. Their bodies are often naturally heavily armoured in plates down the entire back- this armour extends down the length of the creature's heavy tail, which when swung could easily knock down a tree. The humanoid part is human-sized and the animal part corresponds in size. They often have horns or antlers, especially in the males.

    Pixies: Tsermoic
    Population: 3.5 million
    Lifespan: Several thousand years
Eukaryota, Animalia, Chordata, Mammalia, Bifidus, Primates, Angelae, Piskey
    Piskey Sinistra
In appearance they are similar to humans, but tend to be much shorter- about five feet being average height. The other large and obvious difference between them and humans would be the wings; large, insectoid wings of any insect variety, though most commonplace are those of moths and butterflies. Their bodies tend towards the delicate and impish sides of humanity; their skin can be human-coloured, however it is usually a shade of denim blue. (In many hybrids the tsermoic are much more insectoic and serve as insectoid anthros.)

They have natural patterns over their bodies that look like bizarre tatoos, often featuring loops, circles and swirls. They are however devoid of skin imprints such as fingerprints. Their eyes are large for their faces, but not in a cute way, and are usually yellow though are also sometimes shades of green; there is not white to their eye. Small noses, large mouths, and powerful but delicate-looking jaws full of razor-sharp teeth and black gums. The teeth usually aren't dentally pristine because they are used quickly, swallowed, and regrown. Their faces are decidedly pixie-like.

    Angels: Yazzerokh
    Population: 63 000
    Lifespan: A few hundred years
Eukaryota, Animalia, Chordata, Mammalia, Bifidus, Primates, Angelae, Angelus
    Angelus Benevolens
Like their cousins the pixies, angels tend towards being quite lovely, much more human-looking except for the slightly otherwordly beauty about them. Their skin is usually pale in colour, and their hair generally blonde or another light colour, but black and Asian angels are not unheard of. They can have slightly unnatural hair colours, such as silver, a very pale rose or an almost-black navy blue, but still, by and large blonde is the most common colour. Their eyes are usually pale and are quite frequently not human colours.

Their most obvious non-human trait is their wings. In some they are glorious wings for soaring like eagles, but usually they are smaller wings more similar to a swallows', with the very obvious V shape. The colours tend to be white or lighter shades of yellow and brown, though any natural bird colouration can be found, or the colour matching the angel's hair.

Although they are generally viewed in a much kinder light than their cousins, the pixies, angels are not always as benevolent as they are portrayed in the stories. Most of their population is, but there are always some errants.

    Lifespan: 150y
Eukaryota, Animalia, Chordata, Actinopterygii, Bifidus, Primates, Homusadluo, Pisciadsimilis
    Pisciadsimilis sirens
Mer-people. They can be based off of any kind of fish (and occasionally other sea animals) but are mostly humanoid in shape, except that they have a fish tail instead of legs. (Many hybrids can shift into legs.)

Their skin is usually scaled and fish-coloured, though 'mammalian' or 'fleshy' mer-people are also recognized. Their colours are generally derived from their fishy half.

The females of the fleshy variety have breasts, as do the occasional scaly ones. Both sexes possess a frontal cloaca, which are the only part compulsory to cover in most mermish societies (though many 'fleshies' cover their breasts as well), and the females give live birth to their young.

They have gills for breathing underwater, and some also possess lungs.

Lifespan: One or two thousand years
Eukaryota, Animalia, Chordata, Mammalia, Primates, Homonidae, Elvinus
    Elvinus elvinus
Stereotyped as beautiful, tall and proud, elves look very much like humans. Their skin colours range from pure white to beige to brown to pure black; their hair can be black, brown, blonde, auburn, silver or white; and their eyes are usually a natural human colour, if a bit more vivid in hue, but can hit anything in the rainbow.

However, there are plenty of short and ugly elves.

Really there are very few differences between humans and elves. Elves come equipped with pointy ears and a longer lifespan, and some can apparently use magic, but that's about it.

A drow is simply an elf with pure black skin and light hair, usually white- a specific name for the melanistic variety. They are no more often 'evil' than other elves.

    "Grow Your Own" Guide
Erm... grow your own... yesss... moving on.

We love diversity and interesting species. We don't care what colours they can have, what they eat and breathe, if every single one of them looks like Keira Knightley or Brad Pitt, what we care about is that there is a balance between these things.

There is a clever rule we have that says "No fucking godmoding bitches." Meaning that you should make your character not all-powerful. Also, Mary Sues are bad. If your species is full of pretty people, they should either be nasty or weak as hell (or both). We don't mind if there's a span of attractiveness in which your character falls at the top and they happen to be powerful and clever as well (but hopefully not loving and kind on top of all that) but if your entire species was just bamf AWESOME, methinks we'd see some pretty rapid inter-dimensional conquest going on yea, and we don't want that to happen, yes?

Humanoids are encouraged, however we discourage you from making an entirely new species and submitting it to us for revision if it is simply anthropomorphic. Maybe this kind of species has special powers or some kind of unique culture, yes, all very fascinating, it can still be one of our anthros, maybe hybridized with something else, but it doesn't need to be an entirely new species, savvy?

Also, we're trying to limit the number of undead. Simply because undead unnerve me. ... / annoy. Properly executed, vampires are damned sexy stuff, but usually they come out as 'the emo that whines in the night.' Also, zombies are good for the lulz, but I think they'd be shot on-sight when they entered Helveticus.

Talking animals kinda get on my nerves sometimes. Some of them are great, though. Uhm, yeah.

As much as I love Douglas Adams, and I really do, I'd like to avoid hyperintelligent shades of the colour blue and nasty goo-organisms that eject filing cabinets from their 'mouths'. I doubt many of you would actually want to play many of those things but, just... a forewarning.
