RULES, POSTING LEGEND, AND PAINFUL MISTAKES

Forum Rules | Joining Rules | Posting Rules | Posting Legend | Painful Mistakes
Candidate Rules | Hatchling Rules

FORUM RULES

  1. Respect: Please respect everyone, especially the administrators both OOC and IC, in this forum.
  2. Helpfulness: Please be helpful to new players who do not know what to do.
  3. Role-Play: Play at your own risk. Do not whine. If someone hurts your feelings, get over it or talk to them about it. But please, please do not stop the RP (Role Play) thread to talk to them about it.
  4. PM Discussions: If you are upset with someone and need to talk it out with that person, please use the PM instead of the forum or the chat room.
  5. Complaints: If you want to complain about someone’s behavior, please give evidence preferably a screenshot of the event and post it in the Rants and Complaints forum or PM an Admin.

JOINING RULES

  1. The maximum number of characters that you may have is five (NPCs not included). However, if you are very skilled in Role-Playing, you may be given permission to create more characters. Note: I, Houka Ryuu, would prefer that you use the Acornrack Application as an OOC account. And use the Standalone Application for your IC accounts preferably one character per account but I'm not insisting on it.
  2. Candidates will only be accepted if a clutch has been laid in the hatching grounds.
  3. No HAD (Hear All Dragon) Candidates.
  4. When the Hatching comes, the rider of the Queen or the clutching female dragon will decide what the Candidates gets in the way of dragon color, dragon size and dragon name. If you have a preference as to what you get, include it in your joining form and be very active in the RPG. You may not get what you want, but it will be taken into consideration.
  5. You cannot be related to someone from the Pern books.
  6. You cannot be someone from the Dragonriders of Pern books.
  7. Please do not use common Earth names for your Character. However, if you do, you must provide why your character has that common Earth name.
  8. As much as possible, have your character's name as a combination of your character's parents' names. For example, Lesla, whose name comes from Lesara and Larod. Or Terriel whose name comes from Tereson and Lyrriel.

POSTING RULES

  1. IC: IC or In Character posting is to be kept out of the OOC forums.
  2. OOC: OOC or Out Of Character posts are to be kept in the OOC forums or at the very minimal in any other forum. Just make sure that we know which part of your post is IC and which is OOC.
  3. God-Moding: Do not use (i.e. going somewhere, saying, hearing, seeing, or doing something, etc.) someone else’s character or private NPC in your post unless you have their express permission to do so. If you do get permission, I suggest you hold onto that permission if what you’re doing to that character is more than just moving them around. Example below.

Wrong: L'rod grabbed Lesara by the neck and tossed her over the cliff.
Right: L'rod made a grab for Lesara’s neck with the intention of tossing her over the cliff.

That goes right along with auto playing. Under any circumstances, you cannot kill/maim another character without their permission. After you receive their permission, it must be cleared by an administrator first, so contact one.
  4. Power-Playing: No power playing. Your character does not have super powers or magical abilities. So remember, you are an average normal human being not Superman.
  5. Back Edits: You can edit your posts in the IC thread for spelling or BB Code corrections but please do not go back and edit the IC posts for purposes of changing the responses, interaction, sequences, etc. Once you do, that would in turn make the following response posts that were already made, inconsistent to the way the events have fallen, since they would be following after the original actions that were posted. It would be considered an unwelcome manipulation of outcomes and the ability to edit your own posts might be revoked should you be found to doing Back Edits persistently after being warned by a staff member.
  6. Topic Creation: Try to state a topic title that would best describe what the thread is all about and be as specific as possible. In addition, in topic description, try stating what time of day said topic occured.

For example in the Candidate Dens:
Topic Title: Lesla's Den - Settling In (Morning 1-50-455 AS)

In this way, we should be able to know if a character can join the thread or not. I mean, you cannot have your character in two places at once at the same time. In addition, you can create a topic that occurs earlier from the current date. It does not have to be happening during the current date if you do not want it to be.
  7. Threads and Posting: Your minimum is to post at least one paragraph. If there are more than two Role-Players in a thread, please take turns and allow the others to respond. In turn, please have time for the RP at least once a week before you apply and let us know if you think you will be gone longer but expect to return. In addition, do not leave out another character by talking to just one when there are three of you in the thread.
  8. Forum Jumping: When you are in a thread, before forum or category jumping, please be sure to announce you are leaving the thread you are currently in. It will help with the consistency and add to the realism so that others will know you've left the thread entirely.

For example: Lesara said her farewell to L’rod. She got up from her chair and left the Mess Hall to go to her Den.
  9. Vacation Notice: If you will be on vacation, please let us know. If you do not post for thirty (30) days, your character becomes an AIC (Adoptable Inactive Character). If for any reason your character is not reactivated or adopted in a year, other players may be able to get permission for your character to be killed off.
  10. Thread Death: Threads can die too and will be locked when they have become officially dead, have come to an ending point, or have become too long and a new thread had been started. Threads that have died (no new posts for at least 60 days) will be closed and moved to The Cemetery. Should you want a particular thread to be revived, please PM an Admin or Global Moderator.
  11. Grammar and Details: Read threads and follow their example. Please have as much correct spelling as possible and do not skimp and say U for You etc. This is an RPG based in creative writing and the preference is that it is story-like, with plenty of details, thoughts and feelings in a story format. That means you must write in the third person point of view.

Wrong: I have a dragonling called Lovely.
Right: Lesla has a dragonling called Lovely.

  12. Consistency: Character position within the RP Thread, such as if your character is in a jungle up a vine, they cannot suddenly be in a village or touch the hair of someone who is standing on the ground many feet below the vine. They need to role play getting from point A to point B.
  13. Mature Content: If your characters are going to have some adult fun, please label the thread Mature or Rated 18+ or Rated X or whatever words you want to use to mean that the contents in the topic are not for those of minor age. If we find out you haven’t, shame on you. Remember, there are younger people on this site.
  14. Profanity: If you must use profanity, keep it to the words provided for you in Oaths and Swears.
  15. Laws Of Physics: If you fall and there is no particular reason you know how to fly, you will drop to the ground incurring wounds and/or broken bones. This is not a cartoon where characters just get up and dust themselves after taking a fall from twenty feet in the air. Therefore, should you get hurt in any way, you will not be ok and good to go by next post. You are expected to allocate healing time for your character. Healing your character will be faster if you make your character apply healing herbs and other medicinal remedies that he/she has in his/her person when he/she fell, or by making your character see a Healer but only if the Healer chooses to help your character.
  16. The Powers Of Knowing: Your character cannot know what you know from reading the posts in the thread. In other words they cannot magically "know" something important that you have discovered while reading the posts in a thread.
  17. Internet Lingo: Please, do not make any Internet abbreviations such as "lol" for "laughing out loud".
  18. Technology: Please no modern technology. This RPG is set in a medieval time frame and the current population no longer has the technological capability for any technical gadgetry.

Candidate

Behavior Rules

  1. Candidates are expected to act with the dignity required of Dragonriders-to-be and conduct themselves accordingly.
  2. Candidates will address other members of the Den according to rank unless given permission to use a more familiar form of address.
  3. No fighting. Fighting will result in severe punishment or even expulsion from the Den.
  4. Candidates may drink and have relationships but are encouraged to do so in moderation. Female candidates are reminded that becoming pregnant will jeopardize their position to Stand for a Clutch.
  5. The same obedience and respect will be shown to the Headwoman, and the other support staff, as is shown to the Candidate Master and any other Riders.

Barracks Rules

  1. Candidates will not enter the Candidate Masters office if it is unoccupied without express permission.
  2. Candidates will be in the Candidate Dens before lights out or face punishment detail. The only exception to this is if they have informed the Candidate Master and have obtained his permission to be elsewhere.
  3. All Candidates will attend their Chore groups and complete assigned tasks in a timely manner unless excused for medical reasons.
  4. Candidates are responsible for the tidiness and cleanliness of their den area. Excessive mess will result in punishment detail.
  5. Any personal valuables will be kept in a locked cupboard located in the Candidate Master's office. They may only be retrieved from the cupboard by fetching the Candidate Master. Any other valuables kept in the Candidates personal storage chest and room are the responsibility of their owner.
  6. Candidates will not leave the Den without permission as the Candidate Master must know where you are at all times in preparation for Hatching.

Requirements for Standing

  1. Candidates are to be between the ages of 12 and 23. If someone above the age limit and wants to become a Candidate, they must discuss Candidacy with the Kingrider, Queenrider, Candidate Master and Hatchling Master.
  2. Candidates under the age of 12 will not be allowed to stand on the Hatching sands. There will be no exceptions.
  3. Candidates must be in excellent physical and mental health before they will be allowed to Stand.
  4. Candidates are required to alert the healers any time they feel sick, lest they jeopardize their Impression status.
  5. Candidates are not allowed to go onto the Hatching Grounds without permission or supervision.
  6. All Candidates will be housed in the Candidate Dens, and will be subject to the rules thereof.

Hatchling Rider Rules

Behavior Rules

  1. Hatchlings are expected to act with the dignity required of soon-to-be-Dragonriders and conduct themselves accordingly.
  2. Hatchlings will address other members of the Den according to rank unless given permission to use a more familiar form of address.
  3. No fighting. Fighting will result in severe punishment and may make your hatchling anxious about your safety.
  4. Hatchlings may indulge themselves in drink but in moderation.
  5. Hatchlings are prohibited to have sexual relationships. They are reminded that although their dragons may sound mature, their emotions and bodies are not. So it would be wise to be celibate. And by celibate, that means no self-inflicted sexual act also.
  6. The same obedience and respect will be shown to the Headwoman, and the other support staff, as is shown to the Hatchling Master and any other Riders.

Barracks Rules

  1. Hatchlings will not enter the Hatchling Master's office if it is unoccupied without express permission.
  2. Hatchlings will be in the Hatchling Dens before lights out or face punishment detail. The only exception to this is if they have informed the Hatchling Master and have obtained permission to be elsewhere.
  3. All Hatchlings will attend their Lessons and complete assigned tasks or chores in a timely manner unless excused for medical reasons.
  4. Hatchlings are responsible for the tidiness and cleanliness of their den area. Excessive mess will result in punishment detail.
  5. Any personal valuables will be kept in a locked cupboard located in the Hatchling Master's office. They may only be retrieved from the cupboard by fetching the Hatchling Master. Any other valuables kept in the Hatchling's personal storage chest and den are the responsibility of their owner.
  6. Hatchlings will not leave the Den without permission as the Hatchling Master must know where you are at all times.

PAINFUL MISTAKES

Here, you will find a list of mistakes that members often do. The list is small for now, but it will grow as time passes.

  1. We refer to where the dragons live as the DEN. NOT a Weyr, which is copyrighted by Anne McCaffrey. Nor do we call it a Heights or a Rise, which is what most of the other dragonrider RPGs use.
  2. The leaders of the den are called the DENLEADERS. NOT Weyrleaders, which is copyrighted by Anne McCaffrey. Nor do we call them Heightleaders or Riseleaders, which is what most of the other dragonrider RPGs use.
  3. We call a year as a CYCLE, NOT a Turn, which is copyrighted by Anne McCaffrey. Nor do we call it a year.
  4. The miniature dragons are called DRAGONLINGS. NOT fire lizards, which is copyrighted by Anne McCaffrey. Nor do we call them, flits or drakes, which is what most of the other dragonrider RPGs use.
  5. There are no watch whers in Kreysthahl. And as far as Kreysthahl is concerned, there will be no equivalent in terms of the whers since we employ guards instead of whers.
  6. The dragon colors are Iridescent, Silver, Bronze, Blue, Red, and Green. There are no Gold Dragons.
