7. Site directory documentation
7.1. What is the site directory?
The site directory allows both users and visitors to search for sites within the Acorn Rack community. If your search term matches results then it will display them to you in order or relevance, giving you the name of the community as well as a short 500 character summary.
7.2. How can I get my site in the directory?
Firstly you need to own a site in the Acorn Rack system, no external sites are referenced. If you do not have a site then please refer to the online manual: '2.5. How can I make a site, and are they free?'. Once you have done this, you need to go to the admin control panel within that site and head over to the 'General options' section. Here you will find a drop down menu called 'Site type'. By default it is set to not display your site in the directory, you can change this, by selecting a relevant category from the list. Submit the form, and your site will now be automatically added into the directory.
7.3. How come some of the sites found are highlighted?
You may stumble upon a site in the directory that has a border and a background color. These are sites that have chosen to upgrade, and so as a 'Thank you' they are highlighted to draw more attention to them. If you would like your site to stand out more in the site directory, then please consider upgrading your account. More information on upgrading can be found in the online manual: '6.1. How can I upgrade my site?'.
7.4. I have added my site to the directory, but I cannot find it when I search for it, what can I do?
Firstly, make sure that your site is listed in the directory, see the online manual: '7.2. How can I get my site in the directory?'. Secondly, you may be trying to find your site amongst popular keywords and phrases. You can fine tune the settings on the directory to allow a more precise search. To find out more about fine tuning the search, please go to the online manual: '7.5. What are the advanced options?'.
If you are still unable to find your site, then please contact "Chris Hill" via a PM and he will try and inform you why.
7.5. What are the advanced options?
If you click the "Advanced options" link just above the search box, then you will find two new options available to you. These can help you pinpoint your search.
- 'Results' which is defaulted to return 5 matches per search can be toggled to return more sites, if possible. If your search returns the maximum amount of sites, fifty, then you can try and refine your search.
- 'Categories' is a great way to refine your search, you can choose from several different categories, including 'RPG' (role playing game), 'Gaming', 'Entertainment' and 'General' amongst others.
