OOC Rules
I + It is imperative that every member treats one another with respect. Any form of disrespectful behavior or complaints will give you a warning. Continue on, and you will be banned from the site.
II + Godmoding and Powerplaying will give you a ticket to hell. Seriously. This is a realistic city roleplay, and with the five very different boroughs in New York, people are bound to get into fights sometimes. You cannot always dodge every punch someone hurls at you and kill everyone in sight whenever you wish. Come to think of it, you cannot kill another person unless he or she gives you permission.
III + I simply cannot enforce this enough: This is a literate roleplaying site, which means that you do not post in CHATSPEAK, l33t, or anything lyke that. Do not even bother sending in an application that has many grammatical errors in it. You will not be accepted. This is an advanced site, and it would do you well not to taint its reputation. Really, use spell check as much as possible, and put punctuation and capitalize whenever needed. Please also use parenthesis () or brackets [] if you are posting OOC on an IC post.
IV + No one is perfect, remember that. Even the most perfect girl should have some secrets kept inside. Everyone has flaws, remember that.
V + Since it is an advanced rpg, I would prefer demand that you type at least two paragraphs of decent length (11 sentences, at least) each post. It is also preferred that you try to match the post length with the person you are rping.
VI + Please, if you are going to use a celebrity for your character's pictures, then you must post on the News/Notices board under the topic Character Sign-Up Sheet and tell us what celebrity/model you are using so we do not get repeat celebrities. If the celebrity you want is taken, choose another one. Also, make sure you choose a real person as a picture, not an anime or cartoon drawing. The latter two are simply intolerable.
VII +When you first join, you must claim a lot on the House Lots Application. This is mandatory, and helps you decide where your character actually lives.
VIII + Do not post any OOC (site) advertisements anywhere in TBA. Call me bitchy, crabby, fussy, pathetic, whatever. I do not want advertisements on my site. If I find it, I will delete it, and you will be warned. Send advertisements to outside sites on private messages to your friends and behind my back. Do not let me catch you.
IX + Listen to the admins and do not piss them off. Respect them because they are the authority figures.
X + Please talk using the third person narrative I.C. Thanks.
XI + When you finish with a thread, edit the subject and add (finished) in the title so the admins can close it.
XII + Always check the stickies & read board descriptions.
XIII + Be active, and constantly help bump the ad.
I.C. Rules
I + There will be restrictions on certain ages and statuses when the admins (or the owner, Rachel) decide we have way too many of them. That, naturally, means that your characters should not always be seventeen-year-olds, rich, and famous. It is a city rpg, not a teen rpg; and you can certainly be any age you want, from five to a hundred and five. You can be any rank you want too, from a wealthy director to a poor, homeless kid. Now that I think of it, you shouldn't all be homosexuals, bisexuals, or heterosexuals either. Have some variety, and be unique. New York City consists of many different races, so let's not all be White or Asian.
II + Regarding your character, make sure you only have one character per account, unless you are playing twins or children.
III + Read the New York Times.
IV + Follow the Age Information page to see what your character can and cannot do.
V + This site is nonrated, so you can have sex. However, make sure to put some sort of warning up if you do. Not everyone wants to know about your personal life, after all. Not only that, but make sure you contain no pornography or nude pictures anywhere on the site. Don't ask why; just don't.
VI +. As far as sex is involved, eh; it's life. Also life, of course, is the very realistic fact that risks will be taken when sex is involved. If you are not careful enough and am a girl, you might very well find yourself pregnant. What you do then is beyond my control.
VII + If you are pregnant, you should roleplay out the pregnancy. In other words, you should have the symptoms of morning sickness and cramps and all the like. Wait at least four days in life before actually giving birth, and make sure to rp that time out. Whether or not your character gets pregnant is actually up to you.
VIII + In NYC, especially for those in schools, gossip will spread. Whether you trust it or not is your own choice, as well as whether or not it makes your life living hell.
IX + Characters sixteen and older can get a job. Check the Occupations page for all the available occupations. You must apply to the application on the Employment Agency and post it there in order to even hope of attaining your vocation. You need work, after all; and here is the only way you can attain it.
X +Your charrie is not omniscient. Even when your significant other is cheating on you, you cannot know for sure unless you actually caught him or her in the act. Everything in TBA has uncertainty, so keep that in mind.
XI + Be your charrie and place him or her wisely. If your charrie is rich, she ought to be in Manhattan, not Bronx. She shouldn't have to be digging out of trashcans, etc. Basically said, just act your character, alright? Be sure also to claim lots on the House Lots Application under News & Notices when you join, for that will decide where your character lives.
XII + Follow the weather chart. Please. If it says it's sunny, then let it be sunny. If it's November, than it is November, etc. Weather changes, and if it changes in the midst of your rp, go with the flow and adapt.
XIII + Students sixteen or older can have part-time jobs in actual places, but must need a work permit. Some jobs are restricted for people of certain age, as well as some places.
XIV + The NPC account can issue out mysterious events anytime it wants. It is up to you to decide what to do when such an event occurs.
XV + If your characters wish to spread gossip, wish to send entertainment news, or are in need of advice and wish not to use their own names, please use the Anonymous account.
XVI + Rules are subjected to change.
Character Placement
+ In terms of character placement, your characters can reside wherever they wish. However, do keep in mind these simple, basic ideas:
- Manhattan: Usually for the wealthier folk.
- Brooklyn: For the upper middle to middle class folk.
- Queens: For the middle to lower middle class folk.
- Bronx: For the poor people
- Staten Island: For anyone, really.
Of course, the owner of this site {Rachel} knows fully well that Bronx do not consist of poor people and Manhattan of extremely wealthy people. However, let us keep in mind that this is roleplaying, and we want to put some general stereotypes and guidelines out there to prevent havoc. Not everyone of all rank can reside in the same place, after all. Go to the House Lots application to see what places are available. Some homes are premade (e.g. mostly apartments), but there are homes that allow you to set your own floorplan once you get the requested lot.
Disclaimer
Keep in mind that this is an rp, and there are limitations that the owner has to adhere to. That, of course, means that NYC here is not the same exact NYC you would see around in real life. There are changes made to promote more diversity and fewer clusters in the site. Sorry actual NYC residents if that is not to your liking. In the nicest way possible: Deal with it.
