Welcome to Star Wars: Dreamcatcher
Everyone knows the events of the last hell-knows how many kriffing years. The Death Star is destroyed, blown to atoms at the Battle of Yavin. A couple years later the second one gets blown up, Darth Vader kills Palpatine, and then dies after Luke manages to bring him back to the light side of the force. Leia marries Han, and they have a pair of twins. Mara Jade spends a great deal of time trying to kill Luke before the Mount Tantiss incident. The Noghri pledged their service to the Alliance. The universe hasn't gotten much farther; we're hovering around the great galactic calendar at about 15 ABY. There's one little problem, however...
The canon universe doesn't matter. We're a little more interested in taking things on from here as ourselves. I'm not saying that all that good stuff in the expanded universe didn't happen, and doesn't happen, I'm just saying that the canon characters involved in that mess aren't our priority. Our priorities are ourselves. Our own stories. What happens to the Skywalkers, the Solos, Chewie, Mon Mothma, so on and so forth...what happens to them is their own problem. Get ready to fly, 'cause you're making your own way in the universe now, my friends. And things...are going to be a little...different.
