FAQ
It is here that I will put little tidbits that you may or may not like to know for this site. For now, only the various moons of Senidar are contained within, but this section will continuously grow as I find things to add or am asked questions. Soon enough, I hope to make this FAQ a little something more!
CELESTIAL BODIES
The Sun
Senidar has one sun that is for all purposes the same as the sun that the earth has. It is referred to as ‘the sun.’
The Scarred Moon
The scarred moon is an incredible sight to behold. The entire moon is made completely from shards of crystal, giving it a jagged appearance. However, every crystal peak and canyon shimmers like a cut gem, catching the light and fracturing it into a rainbow of dancing colors, giving the scarred moon a constant aura of shifting light. Similar smaller crystals form a halo around the moon, giving it a near celestial glow. Few contest that it’s the most beautiful moon in the sky. There is a grim side to this moon, though. Once weekly when the moon is full, it transforms into a dark parody of its former beauty, the crystals of its surface swelling with a bloody red glow. On this night, the scarred moon becomes a thing of death, the red light that it emits causing werewolves to go through their terrible transformation into monsters.
The scarred moon is about the size of a dinner plate in the sky and its cycle makes it full once a week.
Lum
Lum is a relatively small moon, yet it holds a special brilliance. Its glow is a pure white, and unlike the scarred moon it is considered by most in Senidar to be good luck- especially when full- and time. Conversely, times when the moon is nowhere to be seen are considered to be of especially ill luck. Due to its brilliance it is sometimes referred to as the ‘Traveler’s Moon’.
Lum is about the size of a teacup in the sky and its cycle makes it full about every month. Once or twice a year, Lum will eclipse the full scarred moon for a few precious hours of the night. This particular night, despite the scarred moon’s phase, werewolves don’t suffer even the slightest transformation.
Heros
Heros is the smallest of Senidar’s four moons, a bright blue orb in the sky. It traces across the sky quickly, going between moons with a haste that has caused it to commonly be dubbed ‘The Messenger’. Yet another moon with many omens attached to it, it is considered good for the moon to be overshadowed by Lum and bad for it to be overshadowed by the Scarred Moon.
Heros is about the size of a quarter in the sky and is full once every five days.
TECHNOLOGY
The technology of Senidar, through the use of magic in harmony with ingenuity, is mostly equivalent to the technology of the present day real world. This technology is, however, four parts magic for every part technology. Magic is an incredibly versatile power source, more so than any one would find in our world. It can be adapted through devices to be electric, to be heat, to be cold, even to be pure moving force. As such, it isn’t necessary for most residents of Senidar to fiddle with things like clockwork (which, incidentally, is as far as non-magical technology gets in Senidar outside of huge centers like Tekket).
Firearms exist in Senidar, even those that do not work by magic. Powder has been discovered, so of course conventional explosives also exist. These don’t get far beyond flintlock guns, though; only when magic is involved do more advanced firearms come into play. Enchanted guns are highly specialized and normally crafted by smiths who are just as specialized. Weapons such as these are prized and much rarer than the conventional sort; they are as likely to fire bolts of lightning as bullets. Even a regular flintlock rifle, with the proper enchantments, can achieve capabilities beyond those of even advanced modern weaponry. Despite the existence of such combat methods, swords, axes and their ilk are still widely used. A properly enchanted blade (or one in the hands of those with the proper magical talents) is just as useful as an enchanted firearm. For those that aren’t magically inclined, more medieval weapons are much much cheaper and easier to come by.
For everyday technology, common amenities are much rarer as much of Senidar is made up of smaller villages. The larger a town, though, the more widespread technology is. Thing such as plumbing are common everywhere; things like heating and cooling, uncommon outside of medium to larger villages. Though things like screens, monitors, and camera-like artifacts exist, television does not. Local radio, in some places, does, but that is the extent of such things in Senidar. The people of the world simply are not yet united enough or plentiful enough to facilitate television.
Transportation is one of the most expensive things in Senidar. A working vehicle is worth a small fortune, and it is rare that they are privately owned. Most vehicles are ground based and similar to cars, though with each being a complicated piece and no mass production (each is hand crafted by the technology mage that gives it birth) they can be wildly varied and creative. More common forms of transportation are horses, or simple walking. Mass transit involves enormous airships (also as varied as ground vehicles) and ships along the coasts and rivers. Those with a little extra gold can usually afford a mage to teleport them, as well.
