The Races of Hell:

Humans: 99.999 percent of all humans in Hell are dead, and the others don't stick around very long. The eternally damned usually can't communicate, since they're in horrible pain, and those awaiting trial don't stick around long enough to make playable characters, but there's also a rare third category of Hell-bound humans. Once in awhile, a client gets stuck in a sort of legal limbo, either on purpose because their lawyer thinks their trial is hopeless, or by sheer accident. Unable to get into Heaven or Hell, many hang about the offices of Afterlife Inc. for lack of anything more useful to do.

Human souls look as they did in life; at the same age they were when they died. Because souls are eternal, these limbo-ed humans come from all sorts of historical periods, from the dawn of civilization through to modern day. Fortunately, death gives one access to a universal language, so communication isn't a problem.

Demons: The most common race in Hell by far, demons are dark creatures of pure evil and sin borne from the furious fire in the depths of the underworld, yadda yadda yadda. They tend to look rather evil, but individual appearances vary greatly, from hundred foot behemoths through to small acid-spitting lizards. The most intelligent, however, tend to be humanoid. Fully grown at age 100, demons live for roughly 1,000 years, as do all other hellish/heavenly beings.

Angels: On the opposite end of the evil spectrum from demons are angels, pure beings of radiant nice-ness. Angels and the souls of un-sinful humans (two distinct species, mind- good humans do NOT become angels) are the only beings capable of entering Heaven; a beautiful paradise in the clouds where one wants for nothing. Some incessant do-gooder angels, however, decide to take work in Hell in the hopes of being more helpful where the need is greater. Their appearance varies, but most sport feathered wings in varying number and all have glowing golden halos, although they may choose not to wear them.

Fallens: Technically, fallens are the same species as angels, but they look a little grey-er and they're a different legal classification. When an angel sins, they are demoted to "fallen" status, deprived of their halo and rights to work in Heaven, and sent down to Hell. Some fallens are still very nice people, caught on some technicality; such cases are handled with some sympathy in the Higher offices of Afterlife Inc., and kind fallens usually find comfortable, easy desk jobs where they don't have to be evil. Others, however, enjoy their life of sin, and can become almost as ruthless and vicious as demons in their quest for power in Hell.

Halflings: Not to be confused with furry-footed half-sized humans, halflings are beings with both angelic/fallen and demonic blood. Some halflings are mostly one species or the other, with only slight impurities in their angelic/demonic bloodline, while others are much more mixed. They have the potential to be a true "neutral" species, but many take strongly after one extreme or the other; often one side for looks, the other side for personality. However, even the most vicious of halflings still has a nagging shred of a conscience, and even the kindest of halflings is capable of manipulation, trickery and sin.
